Safewire Payments Ltd (“Safewire”) operates a self-custodial payments network, built and run to the standard of Canada's federal financial-crime framework. We never hold customer or merchant funds, and every movement of money is signed by the person or business that owns it.

What we do
- One standard for the whole network. Every participant — people and businesses alike — is verified before transacting, and network-wide usage limits apply by verification level, modeled on Canadian federal financial-crime standards.
- Complete records. Transactions on the network are recorded and retained, so that what happened can be established later, exactly as it occurred.
- Network integrity monitoring. We watch the network for indicators of fraud, sanctions exposure and abuse, and act on what we find — including declining our services and reporting where the law requires reporting by us.
- Cooperation with authorities, under applicable law and process.
What we do not do
- We do not hold, move, convert, or take custody of anyone's funds.
- We cannot freeze funds — the platform is self-custodial by design. Where standards are not met, we decline our services.
Merchants
Merchants on Safewire are independent businesses, responsible for their own regulatory obligations — including any registration and reporting required in the jurisdictions where they operate, and including any cash services they choose to offer at their counters. Safewire equips them for this with complete transaction records and reporting tools.
Prohibited activity
The network may not be used in connection with the proceeds of crime, terrorist financing, sanctioned persons or jurisdictions, fraud, or any unlawful activity. Participants engaged in such activity will lose access to Safewire's services and may be reported to the relevant authorities.
